Crews Work To Restore Power To 8,500 San Fernando Valley Homes
Heat-related power outages swept through the region overnight. By mid-morning, about 2,200 residents remained in the dark.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CA - Crews were Wednesday morning to restore power to more than 8,500 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in the San Fernando Valley following weather-related outages.
By about 10 a.m., they had already cut the number of residences in the dark to 2,200, the utility reported. Of those remaining without power, 819 were in the Van Nuys area, said DWP spokeswoman Vonda Paige. Crews will be working throughout the day to complete full restoration of services, she said.
They installed temporary high voltage equipment in Northridge, where all the customers who were without power last night had their electricity restored Wednesday.

DWP officials said heat can create strain on the grid, which contributes to outages.
