Cyclist Killed By Minivan In North Hollywood

A cyclist who was killed Monday night in North Hollywood was attempting to cross a street outside the crosswalk, police said.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A cyclist killed in a collision with a minivan in North Hollywood was crossing a street outside a crosswalk, authorities said Tuesday.

It happened at 6:37 p.m. Monday in the 12500 block of Strathern Street at the intersection with Whitsett Avenue, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. The man riding the bicycle died at the scene, she said. His name was withheld, pending family notification.

Witnesses told police the cyclist was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk, said Officer M. Puno of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police, Puno said. Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to have been factors in the crash.
