Day 14: Countdown to the Colfax World Fair – Even Better than a Goldfish in a Baggie

Colfax Charter Elementary School in Valley Village hosts this 'old world fair' on June 4. Here are some featured attractions.

The Colfax World Fair takes place exactly two weeks from today, and Valley Village is buzzing with excitement! The blue and gold fair banners are lining the boulevards and posters are popping up in store windows. The Valley Village Report continues with its 20-day countdown, featuring today’s attraction, game, silent auction item, food vendor, and entertainment for Day 14.

Silent Auction item: 4 tickets to the CBS Studio Center 4th of July Festival

Food, live entertainment and exclusive wristbands for a rooftop view of their famous fireworks show. It’s a view so bright, you gotta wear shades (and earplugs).

Food Vendor: Valley’s Pizza Land

Colfax’s neighborhood pizza man will be tossing dough faster than the carnival jugglers. It’s a great way to sneak a few vegetables into your fair-day diet. After all, didn’t Ronald Reagan call ketchup a vegetable?

Game: Fish booth

It isn’t a real carnival unless you can hurl ping pong balls into little glass cups and take home a goldfish in a baggie, but this fair is even better: every winner get a coupon for a free fish at Mark’s Tropical Fish in Studio City. That way Little Flipper doesn’t go belly up while you're waiting in line at the Prize Booth.

Entertainment: Stiltwalkers

New Colfax mom Melissa Wynne-Jones is not abnormally tall, but she will be the day of the Colfax World Fair. She’ll be stiltwalking across the campus and posing for photos with your little munchkins. Be sure to bring your wide lens.

Attraction: Junior World Sports

Not sure if your little tyke is destined to be the next Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning, Derek Jeter, or David Beckham? Here’s basketball, football, baseball, and soccer all under one roof. There’s also darts and Frisbee, which don’t currently have any heroes with household names. Maybe it’ll be you. Start posing for that Wheaties box.

Colfax Charter Elementary School is highlighting daily features on its Facebook and Twitter pages, which are linked to the school Web site. Anyone who replies, retweets, or leaves a comment on Patch will be entered into a daily drawing to win a Colfax World Fair t-shirt and ten tickets to the fair. Winners will be announced each following day.

The winner for Day 15 is Erin Zavala. Congratulations Erin!

The Colfax World Fair takes place Saturday, June 4 from noon till 7 p.m. at Colfax Charter Elementary School – 11724 Addison St., Valley Village. This is Colfax’s most profitable annual fundraiser, and all proceeds pay for student enrichment as well as traditional programs that have been slashed by LAUSD budget cuts.
