Day 2: Countdown to the Colfax World Fair—Mind-Blowing Face-Painting and Strolling Puppet Show

Colfax Charter Elementary School in Valley Village hosts this 'old world fair' on Saturday. Here are some featured attractions.

We’re all the way down to Day 2 of our 20-Day Countdown to the Colfax World Fair, and believe it or not, there are still more amazing features of the day.

Attraction: Adrenaline Rush Obstacle Course

With a name like “Adrenaline Rush” it’s got to be the most exciting attraction south of Magic Mountain (or at least in Valley Village). Tunnels, horizontal logs, 5 and 10-foot rock climbers and slides, crawl-through barrels, inflated bumpers and pop-ups … this inflatable will definitely get your adrenaline pumping.

Food Vendor:

Voted “Best of the Web” in Los Angeles, this local eatery will still be open its normal hours, but it also travels a mile southwest to the Colfax World Fair to bring us some delicious Thai feasts.

Booth: Art by Karina Face Painting

This is not your typical birthday party face painting. Colfax mom Karina Konupek is the Jedi Master of Face Painting, and she not only takes her craft seriously, she is constantly training other artists during frequent “jams.” Be sure to also check out Karina’s mural on the northeast corner of the Colfax campus: “Together We Can,” which is the 2011 graduating 5th grade class gift to the school.

Entertainment: Kiddle Caroo Strolling Puppet Stage

Lisa Clyde and Jim Peace, the Party Creations team who produced the hit children’s video Silly Monsters will have a unique puppet stage and Muppet-like puppets that stroll around the Colfax World Fair. Be sure you have plenty of film in your camera (oops… that was so last century).

Silent Auction Item: Los Angeles Clippers Autographed Basketball

This 2011 Los Angeles Clippers basketball is autographed by the entire team and displayed in an acrylic case. You also may want to get a lock for it so your kids don’t take it out front to shoot hoops.

The Colfax World Fair Countdown Day 4 winner is Jodie Patterson who reminded everyone to check out the Colfax World Fair hip-hop and zumba entertainment at 4:45 p.m..

Colfax Charter Elementary School is highlighting these daily features on its Facebook and Twitter pages, which are linked to the school Web site. Anyone who replies, retweets, or leaves a comment on Patch will be entered into a daily drawing to win a Colfax World Fair t-shirt and ten tickets to the fair. Winners will be announced each following day.

The Colfax World Fair takes place Saturday, June 4  from noon till 7 p.m. at Colfax Charter Elementary School – 11724 Addison St., Valley Village. This is Colfax’s most profitable annual fundraiser, and all proceeds pay for student enrichment as well as traditional programs that have been slashed by LAUSD budget cuts.
