Day 3: Countdown to the Colfax World Fair – The Cure for Teen Angst

The biggest annual event in Valley Village takes place Saturday, June 2.

The Colfax World Fair isn’t just for little kids. There are also plenty of activities for teens and tweens. So whether you are dragged to the fair by your younger brother or sister, or you’re just looking for something more entertaining than another Saturday just hanging around the mall, you’re sure to have a blast!

Attraction: Velcro Wall

So you think you’re a big man on campus? That no one can take you down? As they say, the bigger they come, the harder they fall, so why don’t you take a flying leap and make a vertical land on this 13-foot tall Velcro Wall? Of course, it might take four security guards to try to unstick you.

Special Area: Kinect Sports & Dance Craze

So you think you’re too old for all those inflatables? Or are you afraid to let your buddies know that you think those slides are too scary? Either way, come on over to our Electronic Game Area and try your hand at these virtual games. Bowling, Boxing, Track & Field, Table Tennis, Beach Volleyball and Soccer are the challenging sports you can play on Xbox 360’s Kinect Sports. Or show off your moves by playing Nintendo GameCube’s McGroovz Dance Craze. Make sure you don’t wear your tight jeans for this attraction. The Colfax World Fair has a First Aid Booth, but it probably lacks a sewing kit.

Entertainment: King Band

So you think you know who works at your school? Who would have guessed that our own Miss Kate in the Colfax yard actually lives a double life as the lead singer for the Red Ball Jets, a band that plays gigs across the southland every other night of the week. In fact, they even have a gig that night. You’ll hear Kate King and her husband Nate (hence The King Band) perform your favorite rock cover tunes.

Food Vendor: Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

So you think you’re old enough for caffeine? We’ve got it here at the Colfax World Fair. Come on down for some refreshing ice blended mochas from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. It’ll be the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. Then you can go dance a little more.

Silent Auction Item: Backstage Passes to the Grammys

So you’ve got your back row tickets to the Grammys, and you spent a fortune on them, but all those rock stars look like ants. Not to worry. If you’re the winning bidder, these tickets will get you chillin’ with the A-listers.

The Colfax Word Fair takes place Saturday, June 2 from noon – 7p.m. at Colfax Charter Elementary School, 11724 Addison St., Valley Village, 91607. Admission is free and all money raised pays for student programs at Colfax. Silent auction items can be viewed by logging clicking here.
