Day 7: Countdown to the Colfax World Fair – Hamster Bubble Bowling
Colfax Charter Elementary School in Valley Village hosts this "old world fair" on June 4. Here are some featured attractions.
There’s exactly one week to go in our 20-Day Countdown to the Colfax World Fair. Valley Village’s biggest annual event will attract up to 6,000 people from across Los Angeles. The Valley Village Report features another daily silent auction item, food vendor, game or booth, entertainment and attraction that you’ll find on the big day.
Silent Auction Item: Law & Order SVU
You could win all 11 seasons of Law & Order Special Victims Unit – 36 DVDs in all. For the one or two people in America who haven’t already seen every episode.

Food Vendor: Drink Carts
Bottled water, sodas, juices … we have it all (as long as it’s the non-alcoholic variety). And Colfax wants everyone to participate in the circle of life, so recycling bins will be nearby to catch your empties.

Booth: Tattoos
No need to go through the pain of laser removal. However, the Colfax World Fair does not supply the hot bath and scrubbing brush.
Entertainment: Drill Team
Colfax’s free after-school program, Beyond the Bell’s Youth Development Program (YDP) has a drill team that recently won 4th place in the competition between 15 other schools. They have been rehearsing for nearly four months, and the 14 3rd - 5th grade girls will be dancing to a mashup of songs put together by instructor Stacey Hermosillo. Think of them as Laker Girls with a stricter dress code.
Attraction: Hamster Bubble Bowling
Have heard about the boy in the plastic bubble? It could be you, and your immune system can stay intact. Climb into the 7-foot sphere, roll 40 feet, and knock over ten giant pins. See what a strike looks like close up!
Colfax Charter Elementary School is highlighting these daily features on its Facebook and Twitter pages, which are linked to the school Web site. Anyone who replies, retweets, or leaves a comment on Patch will be entered into a daily drawing to win a Colfax World Fair t-shirt and ten tickets to the fair. Winners will be announced each following day.
The Colfax World Fair Countdown Day 9 winner is Tom Rosholt who commented on Patch. Congratulations, Tom! Now you can play a few extra rounds of Water Wars with your kids.
The Colfax World Fair takes place Saturday, June 4 from noon till 7 p.m. at Colfax Charter Elementary School – 11724 Addison St., Valley Village. This is Colfax’s most profitable annual fundraiser, and all proceeds pay for student enrichment as well as traditional programs that have been slashed by LAUSD budget cuts.
