Day 8: Countdown to the Colfax World Fair—Can You Say 'Ommm'?

Colfax Charter Elementary School in Valley Village hosts this 'old world fair' on June 4. Here are some featured attractions.

There are only eight more days until the biggest annual event in Valley Village: the Colfax World Fair. Here are some highlights you’ll see on the big day.

Silent Auction Item: Mark Blanchard’s Power Yoga: 1-, 3- or 6-Month Membership

LA Weekly voted Mark Blanchard Power Yoga "Best Yoga Instructor for All” in 2010. Mark, his wife Elizabeth and the rest of his team come to the Colfax campus every week to give free yoga instruction to the students at Colfax. As if he hasn’t given the school enough already, he is also donating certificates for a one-, three- and six-month membership. Can you say “Ommmm?”

Food Vendor: Island Style Barbeque

This is a truly amazing feast cooked up by Colfax’s Anetema family, with skinless, boneless chicken thighs, short ribs, white rice, and potato salad with chicken breast. It’s a big representation from two of the major food groups. Perhaps dairy and farm councils didn’t have food vendors who would give half back to Colfax.

Game: Knock Down

A kid’s game where no one gets hurt. A bit tamer than the game at the fairs that serve alcohol.

Entertainment: 1st graders

These little tykes will be singing “The World is a Rainbow” and “This Land is Your Land.” Why would anyone consider school budget cuts after hearing gems like those?

Attraction: Photo Booth

A memorable reminder of your day at the Colfax World Fair – and more pleasant than that Silent Auction Visa bill.

Colfax Charter Elementary School is highlighting these daily features on its Facebook and Twitter pages, which are linked to the school Web site. Anyone who replies, retweets, or leaves a comment on Patch will be entered into a daily drawing to win a Colfax World Fair t-shirt and ten tickets to the fair. Winners will be announced each following day.

The winner for Day 10 is Alter Fam who commented on the Colfax Charter Facebook page. Congratulations!

The Colfax World Fair takes place June 4 from noon to 7 p.m. at Colfax Charter Elementary School, 11724 Addison St., Valley Village. This is Colfax’s most profitable annual fundraiser, and all proceeds pay for student enrichment as well as traditional programs that have been slashed by LAUSD budget cuts.
