Deepthi Madhavan Completes Work on New Film 'Third Time Lucky'
The Noted Filmmaker Shares her Story as She Prepares for the Release of Her Upcoming Film

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – With a passion for music and all things technology, Deepthi Madhavan grew up loving the arts and the ever growing world of computers and video games. Today, the noted film producer is completing work on the upcoming film drama “Third Time Lucky,” set for release next year.
“I grew up in Bangalore, India where I was always into singing. I learned Indian Classical Music for 10 years, won more than 300 awards and was performing all over India,” she recalled. “The first time I ever played with a camera was when my mom took me to a dilapidated village in Karnataka, India to distribute notebooks to school kids. I got a chance to film their lifestyle, the happiness of the small school kids and even their houses made of hay. It was truly an experience was life changing.”
But with a fascination for technology, she decided to study mechanical engineering in college but the pull of her love for movies led her to work in a number films in the burgeoning film industry in India. It would soon take her to the U.S. where she would work on indie films that stressed characterization and real human emotions over special effects or action-driven dramas.

“It’s what attracted me to ‘Third Time Lucky.’ It is based on a true life story. I read the script and was so attracted to it that I had to say yes,” she said. “The best part about the project is that it’s very relatable to many, many people and it’s a true story. It was an amazing experience. I met some lovely people as a result.”
“Third Time Lucky” tells the story of man who as a child saw two women get raped, but was unable to do anything about it, but when facing the same situation as an adult his actions will now define him forever. Even as she wraps production on the film, Madhavan is already excited about her other project, the sci-fi thriller “Upside to the End of the World,” which was recently completed. The film tells the story of people’s fears of the unknown as they meet otherworldly aliens trying to make contact.

“It’s a very exciting script with lots of unexpected turns and great characters,” she said. “Fans will have a lot of fun watching this movie and getting scared.”
But even as she maps out her future with new projects in the horizon, Madhavan sees Hollywood as a challenging place with many opportunities.
“There are definitely many many challenges for a woman because Hollywood still on some level is a male dominated industry. But I never looked at myself as being a girl as an obstacle. I was the only mechanical engineering student who was a girl in a class of 60 guys. I don't look at anybody on the film set as a man or a women first. I look at them as a co-worker. One of the biggest things which drives me to make epic films is every time a guy tells me, ‘you can't do it cuz you are a girl,’ I go like ‘yeah right.’”
