Disney Announces 5th Indiana Jones Film with Harrison Ford, 73

Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will team up again for the 2019 release of the fifth installment of Indiana Jones. An enduring blockbuster powerhouse, the return of Indiana Jones seems almost inevitable even though Ford will be 77 when the film is set for release on July 19, 2019.

To quote Indiana Jones, “It’s not the years, honey. It’s the mileage.”

As he did the previous four films, Steven Spielberg will once again direct the film, and franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce, according to a statement put out by The Walt Disney Studios.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

We first met Indiana Jones in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time. Ford would go on to reprise the iconic role three more times in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The four films have combined to rake in nearly $2 billion at the box office.

News of a fifth Indiana Jones film instantly prompted the Twittersphere hashtag #FakeIndy5Titles with helpful tips for the new movie title including Raiders of the Lost Early Bird Special and Indiana Jones and The Golden Corral, dinner at 4:30.
