Everything Is Mainly $1 at Valley Village's Newest Store
A giant chain retail store replaces a longtime local, independent shop.
A new Dollar Tree store on Magnolia Boulevard in Valley Village opened its doors three days ago, completing the location's transition from longtime independent, locally-owned shop to corporate franchise chain store.
Many residents and Patch readers lamented the loss of , a pottery and plant store that had been there for 36 years, and had this to say on our pages:

But it surely makes me sad when I see the independently owned businesses that charmed me when I first moved to the Valley in the late 70's disappear one by one. -
It will be a shame for such a good store to close down. They had the nicest staff to help you and answer your questions. -

But fans of Mainly Seconds were given a pleasant surprise when just a few days after it closed, several former employees of the shop opened up their own pottery and plant store on Burbank Boulevard, .
Dollar Tree is a retail chain that specializes in goods that cost under $1. According to its Web site, Dollar Tree opened its 4,000th location in 2010. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every other day of the week.
