Film Veteran Jan Verborg Takes his Cinematic Style to New Media

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Known for his unique vision and approach to filmmaking, Jan Verborg has a passion for film and traditional storytelling. His work in German and European cinema is full of unique stories and captivating visuals, so when he decided to expand into New Media, his fellow cinematographers were surprised and enthralled at the same time.

Today, the veteran cinematographer is taking his skills to the upcoming online talk show “O Honey,” hosted by actress and Playboy Playmate Amanda Cerny and social media sensation Sommer Ray set to premiere later this year.

“I am thrilled about joining Amanda and Sommer in this exciting new endeavor,” Verborg said. “They have a great energy, humor and chemistry that is perfectly suited to this show which I know fans will love!”

“O Honey” will feature the two stars joined by a variety of guests from the world of entertainment in a free-spirited uncensored discussion about love, life and dating.

The show is just the newest effort by Verborg to expand his horizons after serving as cinematographer and editor for a number of film projects including the highly-acclaimed German feature film “Mein rechter, rechter Platz ist frei,” (“My Right, Right Seat is Free”) from writer/director Kerstin Rütz (“Echos”) who presents the compelling aftermath of a tragic school shooting.

Verborg’s recent work includes the film drama “Confessio” from director Zejnula Sahiti, the drama limited series “Helen Dorn,” starring Anna Loos (“Anatomy,”) the sci-fi series “Professor T” from executive producer Sam Davis, as well as other film and television projects.

“I’ve always been attracted to films that leave you thinking and have an important message,” he said. “I’m also attracted to innovative people who are thinking out of the box and exploring new boundaries and territories that few may have thought about and Amanda and Sommer are doing just that!”

Born near Dortmund, Germany, Verborg had a fascination for movies and television from early on, making his own stop-motion movies with his Lego set at age 8, before moving on to live action with his own sophisticated equipment in high school and in college where he was mentored by some of the top cinematographers in Germany.

After graduating from WAM – Die Medienakademie, it didn’t take long for Verborg to begin his journey in the industry, working on commercials, music videos and films in the highly-competitive German entertainment industry. He soon caught the attention of European and American filmmakers who then engaged Verborg in a variety of projects.

Even as he expands his interests into New Media, Verborg sees a day where traditional filmmaking and New Media will seamlessly mesh together without the “us vs. them” mentality that continues to divide the two mediums today.

“There are still a lot of people in film that hate New Media and don’t want to be compared to those who work in it,” he said. “But that’s slowly changing and it’s evident in the quality of projects that are being created today in New Media and by the millions of people that watch them online. I’m very excited about the future.”
