Fundraiser for Presidential Candidate Jon Huntsman Set for Friday at Toluca Lake Tennis Club

The event is being organized by Dylan Conroy, a member of the Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council.

Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman is holding a fundraiser on Friday at the Sports Center Toluca Lake Tennis Club.

Huntsman is the former Republican governor of Utah who also served as President Obama's ambassador to China from 2009 to earlier this year. Huntsman's reputation is that of a moderate, progressive Republican, which is what has earned him the support of the fundraiser's organizer, Dylan Conroy, a member of the .

"I've been a Republican my entire life, but what you would consider a very progressive Republican," said Conroy. "Fiscally, I've conservative but socially I'm very progressive, and I think you would find that true of many people my age who are still loyal to the party who are in their 20s and 30s and socially they believe government should stay out of your life and not interfere and don't identify with the religious right."

Hunstman has struggled thus far to gain significant media attention and is not considered a frontrunner. In a poll released Wednesday by Fox News, 4 percent of Republican voters said they would like to see Huntsman win the presidential nomination.

"He's not one of the forefront runners in the race right now, but he's a guy that has been making a lot of sense to Republican moderate progressives. He's level-headed, business-centric, definitely not your Rick Perry or George Bush breed," said Conroy. "He got blasted by the religious right on Twitter for coming out and saying, 'If you are on the side of evolution and global warming, then you agree with 99 percent of the scientific community, how can you argue with that?' The fundraiser is the latest in a series of events Conroy has organized at the Toluca Lake Tennis Club, which he said he joined nine months ago.

"It started as a challenge from the CEO of the company I work for, an author named Keith Farazzi, and basically the idea was that back in the day, a club meant something. It was a place people went to socialize and be a part of their communities. It wasn't like it is now, where you got an anonymous workout in with ... iPod earbuds on," said Conroy. "I took that advice to heart and joined the club about nine months ago to have that joint experience ... where I could also socialize and host events."

The event will be held at the club's restaurant, Ramsey's at the Club, where Conroy has already organized a number of events, including a fundraiser in July for A Good Night Sleep, a nonprofit organization that supplies beds and bedding essentials to people making the transition from homelessness to permanent housing.

For more information on the fundraiser, or if you want to attend, see the attached PDF or contact Conroy at dylancconroy@gmail.com. The fundraiser costs $1,000 for a VIP attendance and $250 for a general attendance.
