Harvey Weinstein Could Face Prosecution In Beverly Hills Cases

Beverly Hills police referred two cases against Harvey Weinstein to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office for prosecution.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office may yet prosecute disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused of sexually harassing and assaulting dozens of woman.

Officicials with the district attorney's office confirmed Tuesday that prosecutors are reviewing two cases referred by the Beverly Hills Police Department. Prosecutors declined to release specific details about either case, but numerous women have publicly accused Weinstein of sexual assault at various hotels in Beverly hills. In November, an unnamed actress sued Weinstein, alleging he raped her and sexually assaulted he on separate occasions at the Montage in 2015 and 2016.

"Two cases have been presented to our office by the Beverly Hills Police Department regarding Mr. Weinstein and are under review," Greg Risling, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office told City News Service.

Weinstein has not responded to the specific allegations, but a spokesperson for the producer has said he denies all non-consensual encounters.

Dozens of women, including Angelina Jolie, Rose McGowan, Cara Delevingne and Kate Beckinsale, have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment and assault. Weinstein, who has acknowledged inappropriate behavior in the past, has repeatedly denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.

According to the lawsuit filed by Jane Doe, an unnamed actress, In 2015, Weinstein met the woman at the Montage hotel to talk about a job on a show called "Marco Polo." She says he gripped her wrists with one hand while using the other to masturbate in front of her until completion, TMZ reported.

The actress says she met Weinstein again at the Montage in 2016 to "celebrate her upcoming role in "Marco Polo." She says he excused himself, came back out in a bathrobe, grabbed her, threw her on the bed, pulled down her jeans and began orally copulating her, TMZ reported. She says she pushed his head off and ordered him to stop. He then used his "massive weight and strength" to force himself on her, according to the actress, pushing his penis inside of her vagina without a condom.

The producer is also under investigation by the Los Angeles and New York police departments and Scotland Yard. Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey in November announced the creation of a specialized task force in her office that will evaluate cases of "sexual abuse in the entertainment industry."

"I have assigned a group of veteran sex crimes prosecutors to work together to ensure a uniformed approach to the legal review and possible prosecution in any case that meets both the legal and factual standards for criminal prosecution," she said.
