VALLEY VILLAGE, CA — The family of a 91-year-old Holocaust survivor is reeling today, trying to understand why a driver would hit him, run him over and leave him for dead on a busy San Fernando Valley street.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives released video of the fatal hit and run that happened early Monday morning in the Valley Village area. It's the second video of a fatal hit and run in the area released this week. It shows the loss of a beloved family man as well as a sweeping problem plaguing the city. The city is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of these deadly hit-and-run drivers.

The video released Friday shows the driver of a white pickup truck strike Gennady Bolotsky as he walks his dog in a crosswalk on Wilkinson Avenue at Magnolia Boulevard at 5:35 a.m. Monday. The driver stops, but only for a split-second. Bolotsky's body is thrown into the intersection, and the driver continues forward rolling over his body in the rush to flee.

"(The driver) ran over him and stopped and then just made the decision to keep driving," the victim's granddaughter, Erica Bolotsky, told KCAL9.

Bolotsky came to the United States from Ukraine as a refugee during the Holocaust, granddaughter Adrianna Bolotsky said.

"Escaped Nazi occupation, everything was (against him) and this is how he went," Bolotsky told KCAL9. "None of us can put these pieces together."

Anyone with information about this deadly accident was asked to call Valley Traffic Division Officer Fredo at 818-644-8029 or Officer Reyes at 818- 644-8032.
