Krekorian Working at Putting District 2 Youth to Work

The new program plans to employ 13 kids this summer.

The Los Angeles City Council recently unanimously approved a motion from Councilmember Paul Krekorian for $25,000 to fund the Summer Youth Jobs Program.

According to Krekorian's office, the program will hire 13 kids for 140 hours each from July 7 through mid-September, and the kids will work in city parks, on community beautification projects, the Valley Interfaith Council and in the Distict 2 office.

Krekorian also says he will work with local non profits to identify job seekers.

“As young people throughout our neighborhoods are leaving school for the summer, I’m pleased to be able to offer opportunities to those willing to lend a helping hand in our community," Krekorian told Patch via email. "At a time of great economic uncertainty, the Summer Youth Employment Program offers young people a positive direction and the hope and self-worth that comes from a job. These jobs provide more than an income – they teach life skills, a work ethic and positive values that will pay dividends for a lifetime. At the same time, we’re giving Valley youth the chance to devote themselves to public service and make our city a better place.”
