LAPD Officer Charged With Sexually Assaulting Teen Cadet
BREAKING: An LAPD officer at the center of the patrol car theft scandal will be arraigned today for allegedly sexually assaulting a cadet.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A Los Angeles police officer accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl in the department's cadet program was charged with a half-dozen felonies, prosecutors said Friday.
Robert Cain, 31, was charged late Thursday with two counts each of oral copulation of a person under age 16, lewd acts on a child and unlawful sexual intercourse. His arraignment had been set for Friday, but Cain remains in custody in San Bernardino County, where he is facing a series of weapons charges.
A new arraignment date in Los Angeles was not immediately set.

The 10-year LAPD veteran who was previously assigned to the 77th Street Station was arrested by Chief Charlie Beck personally on June 22. The chief said Cain had a sexual relationship with one of seven LAPD cadets who were arrested for having involvement in the theft of three police cars.
According to prosecutors, Cain befriended the 15-year-old girl, and on June 14, he sexually assaulted the girl three times at three different locations.

He faces up to seven years and eight months in prison if convicted, according to the District Attorney's Office.
On July 13, Cain surrendered to authorities in San Bernardino County, where he is facing 10 felony weapons charges. A search of his Rancho Cucamonga home turned up more than 100 weapons, some of which are illegal in California, authorities said.
