LAPD Officer Shot In Ambush, Manhunt On

Police are looking for additional suspects in the ambush shooting of a Los Angeles Police officer Friday night.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A Los Angeles Police officer was ambushed and shot in the Westlake area Friday night.

The officer was shot in her thigh and hospitalized at County-USC Medical Center in stable condition. Police took one suspect into custody and set up a perimeter to search for a second suspect.

“She was ambushed,” Officer Mike Lopez told the Los Angeles Times. “You’re walking and all the sudden someone starts shooting at you.”

The unidentified officer was hit in the thigh and was hospitalized at County-USC Medical Center

``She (the wounded officer) is in remarkably good spirits," LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck tweeted Saturday. ``The dangers of this profession should never be lost on any of us. Please keep both her and her family in your prayers as she recovers."

The shooting occurred right before 10 p.m. on Witmer Street, between Seventh and Eighth streets, Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Division said. Multiple shots were fired at the officer.

A perimeter was set up in the area to look for other suspects possibly involved.

The investigation prompted the closure of the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway at Wilshire Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Traffic was being diverted off at Eighth Street.
