UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Valley Village Pursuit Wanted in East Hollywood Homicide

LAPD officers chased a homicide suspect in his car from the Foothill Division area into Valley Village and took the man into custody near the corner of Riverside Drive and Colfax Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man arrested is Geovanni Cifuentes, 31, a suspect in the May 28 shooting death of David Banuelos outside the Little Temple bar in East Hollywood. Banuelos was shot to death after a verbal dispute took place inside the club, according to an LAPD press release.

Officers were conducting surveillance of Cifuentes' work location in the Foothill Division area and saw him enter a silver Cadillac and drive away, according to a press release. Officers attempted to pull him over but he fled, leading the officers on a short chase that ended at Riverside and Colfax.

After interviewing Cifuentes, detectives believe he was responsible for killing Banuelos, according to the LAPD. He was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the LAPD Metropolitan Jail.
