Man Arrested For Trying to Smuggle Weapons Into LA Jail

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A 28-year-old Sunland man was arrested after he allegedly tried to use fake FBI credentials to smuggle a knife, two Tasers, handcuffs and gloves into the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, the sheriff's department announced Friday.

Greg Baghoomian was taken into custody about 10:10 p.m Tuesday at the Inmate Reception Center of the jail at 450 Bauchet St., said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez.

Baghoomian approached the enclosed booth in the jail's lobby and allegedly flashed a badge and ID to try to get inside the lockup, Navarro- Suarez said. Deputies tried to check his credentials, but Baghoomian ran out and headed to the jail facility across the street from the reception center, where deputies caught up with him, she said.

Deputies allegedly found a knife, two Tasers, handcuffs, gloves and phony FBI credentials in his possession, Navarro-Suarez said.

Baghoomian was booked on suspicion of attempting to bring a deadly weapon inside a jail facility and impersonating an officer, Navarro-Suarez said.

He was being held in lieu of $105,000 bail pending a March 22 court date, according to jail records.
