Manhunt On For Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting In Sylmar
Authorities are looking for a man who fled into rugged terrain along Little Tujunga Canyon Road in Sylmar Monday after a police shooting.

SYLMAR, CA — Police are searching for a man who fled into the remote terrain along Little Tujunga Canyon Road in Sylmar Monday firing on a San Fernando Police Department officer.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, the "suspect was involved in a shooting with an officer, he then fled into the terrain nearby. It is unknown if the suspect was struck by gunfire."
The officer was not injured in the shooting.

The confrontation occurred about 3:40 a.m when the SFPD officer pursued a white GMC pickup that failed to stop following a traffic violation, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deputy Trina Schrader.
The truck driver led the officer to the 13300 block of Little Tujunga Canyon Road in Sylmar, where the officer briefly lost sight of the vehicle before finding it disabled on a dirt shoulder.

The officer exited her patrol car to search the area, but immediately came under gunfire, Schrader said. The officer returned fire, though it was unclear if the suspect was struck.
The location of the shooting is remote, featuring a two-lane road, and equestrian and farmland properties scattered along the hillsides.
Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau personnel were assisting in the search for the suspect. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
