NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Police and church officials are looking for a brazen vandal who damaged a statue of Mary in North Hollywood by St. Charles Borromeo Parish Church.

According to NBC Los Angeles, which first reported the story, the statue at the corner of Lankershim Boulevard and Moorpark Street was spraypainted with a black streak down the middle some time around Friday. Surveillance cameras directed toward the statue likely captured video of the crime, according to church officials.

"I come to this church quite often and I’ve never seen anything like this here. It’s quite disturbing," April Davis from Toluca Lake told NBC. "I just think it’s horrible. I just don’t know what kind of world we’re living in that this would happen at the church," Davis said. "I hope they have it on video."
