PHOTO: Moon and Mars Meet Over North Hollywood
Take a look at this pretty optical illusion.
William G. Stewart-Eddins sent us this photo of the moon, taken in North Hollywood Wednesday night, with Mars to the left and an airplane landing at Burbank Airport over the moon.
According to Gary Robbins of the U-T San Diego, "If you look just above the eastern horizon at 7 p.m. tonight, you'll see a pretty optical illusion; Mars and our moon will appear as if they're very close together. Mars will actually be about 62 million miles away at the time. But it will be easy to spot; you'll see a yellowish-orange dot slightly above and to the left of the moon."
