The Muse Rooms, a Mirror Image of the Noho Arts District
For writers, directors, editors and others, The Muse Rooms might be the working space you've been waiting for.
The Noho Arts District is a revitalized area of the San Fernando Valley nestled perfectly between Studio City and Burbank; the same goes for The Muse Rooms.
The Muse Rooms, located on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood between Magnolia Blvd. and Camarillo St., is a co-working space designed for working professionals who want to work some place other than a coffee shop. Like North Hollywood itself, The Muse Rooms is a converted space, formerly a convenience store, that’s been repurposed to give writers, editors, screen writers, graphic designers, small business owners and other creative types a dynamic space to work around other dynamic people.
It was created by Tim and Nancy Sexton, a married couple who’ve worked in almost every aspect of the entertainment industry on almost every continent. It’s their experiences working and creating that gave them the inspiration to create The Muse Rooms, a quiet place to write a screen play, edit a press release or design a website. Quiet, yet creative, because once a person walks into the doorway they’re enveloped by colors, designs, patterns and entire walls dedicated to freeing up the mind and soul.

While office space is often the Ikea-themed white walls, The Muse Rooms offers something different. “White walls aren’t focus colors,” explains Mrs. Sexton.”Blue, red and green work much better, spawn creativity and inspiration. We went with these colors for a reason.”
There are few, if any colors, a customer won’t find. As diverse are the types of working space. It’s not just a collection of static tables and chairs, but a variety of areas, seating arrangements and furniture. “We wanted a space that allows for expression. If you need a boardroom, we have it. It’s our philosophy that people don’t have to look professional to be professional. It’s okay to let your hair down while you work,” said Nancy.

And truthfully, the place offers a unique variety. There are normal desks and chairs, areas that feel like a coffee house, areas that feel like you’re living room, a diner booth, a full kitchen and more.
Like the Noho Arts District, The Muse Rooms is a space that feels authentic, artistic, edgy, graphic, peaceful, gritty and real. While many creative spaces are a bland corporate collection of white-on-whiteness, and coffee houses mix beautiful working space with today’s latest terrible punk band, The Muse Rooms is a great mix of both. The quiet, respectful atmosphere with the visual inspiration one needs when spending 40 straight hours on a business plan.
Nancy and Tim are also able to offer a sympathetic approach to creativity having sung, written, acted, produced, directed and otherwise birthed several projects. Tim painted the entire Star Wars wall, Nancy restored several pieces of furniture and together they built an affordable coworking space that Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley needs more of.
The monthly membership fee ranges from $125 to $220 depending upon usage, there’s a kitchen with a great coffee machine, an espresso maker and full refrigerator and a nice quiet bathroom for members only. If you’re looking for a more solitary space, The Muse Rooms also offers private office rentals for 2 or 3 people for as low as a $1000 a month, which also includes the same amenities and access to the main space.
