Nestlé Recalls Drumsticks for Possible Listeria Contamination

Nestlé is recalling some vanilla and variety packs of drumsticks for Possible Listeria contamination.

Nestlé USA, Inc. is warning people not to eat drumsticks from its Nestlé Drumstick Club 16-count Variety Pack and 24-count Vanilla Pack due to a possible bacterial contamination.

The company has issued a voluntary recall of the popular drumsticks although no illnesses have been reported.

The ice cream cones were made in Bakersfield, Calif. and distributed nationally. According to a statement from Nestlé, “The company received positive test results for Listeria monocytogenes (LM) from equipment contact surfaces from a location on the production line where these products are made. There have been no positive test results for LM present in the Drumstick cones themselves. The products impacted by the voluntary recall were put into distribution inadvertently. No illnesses have been reported to date; the company is initiating this recall as a precautionary action to avoid any potential for consumer illness.”

Listeria monocytogenes is one of the more virulent strains of bacteria that cause food poisoning. It can be deadly in children, elderly and sick people. Healthy people infected with the bacteria would experience flu-like symptoms. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, according to Nestlé.

“The quality and safety of our products remain our number one priority,” the company announced in a written release. “We apologize for any inconvenience this action represents for both our consumers and retail customers.”
