Using still life set-ups and other types of visuals, you will learn how to break objects down into their simplest shapes and understand how to use these shapes to build compelling drawings. Students will learn about overall proportions, composition, and gain an understanding of depth and three dimensional drawing. Additional materials required: sketch pad at least 11 x 14 (newsprint is fine), soft vine charcoal.

Comic Book Basics: Tuesdays at 7:30 PM. $40 per class. Three month session. Register for all three months in advance ($400) and save! Starts Nov. 4th!

Do you have your characters? Do you think you know what story you want to tell? The only thing holding you back is knowing how to put it all together? This class is for you! Over the course of the three month session, you will learn how to write the script for your comic book/graphic novel, including tricks and rules of storytelling to make your story better. You will learn about how to lay out panels and format your comic book/graphic novel to tell your story the best way possible. You will learn about the tools you can use to help you draw and create your comic book. And, if you attend the entire three month session, the 4-6 pages you create in this class will be published in an anthology along with your classmates! (Additional materials will be required.)

Both classes are taught by Susan Lee, who has almost a decade of experience teaching with Mission Renaissance in fine art and Impressionist painting. Her first children’s book, “Zwoosh!”, has been nominated for a CLEL Bell Award and her graphic novel, “Wraith of Love”, is available on DriveThruComics.com.
