NoHo MMA Finds A New Home

Instead of the usual mirrored wall and black and red mats covering the floors, white padded walls and blue floor mats greeted the 7:00pm adult Kickboxing/MMA class. Students seeing the new studio for the first time shared their excitement over the new training space. From its former location on the corner of Lankershim Ave. and Collins St., NoHo MMA, a mixed martial arts dojo, found its new home on Cahuenga Blvd in North Hollywood right across from Daniel's Tacos, Nobel Bakery, and Moby's Coffee & Tea Co.

NoHo MMA's owner and instructor, Sensei Steve Baca, shares his students’ enthusiasm over the move. The relocation allows for a new schedule of classes at more flexible times. It also allows Sensei Steve to continue doing what he loves best: sharing his passion for martial arts by passing on his knowledge to others.

With over 23 years of experience in various martial arts, Sensei Steve is a 6th degree Black Belt in American Kenpo and holds a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jui Jitsiu. He also trained in Muay Thai under Amir Bantam Weight Lainel Briones. To add to his list of credentials, Sensei Steve is a Level 2 Group leader for FCS Kali, as well as a Level 2 instructor in Valencia LAMECO. His journey into the martial arts world led him to train with prominent mentors and practitioners such as Larry Tatum, Brye Cooper, the famous Machado brothers, Rigan and Roger Machado, Eddie Bravo, Khali Kahn, Guro Felix Valencia, and Guro Rich Verdejo.

Sensei Steve tailors his classes around the concepts of economy of movement, breaking out of patterns and developing a flow, and maximizing the efficiency of every movement. He keeps his students engaged by building upon sections or modules for each class/session, going beyond teaching drills and patterns, and demonstrating the practical application of each movement.

He instructs both kids and adults and prides himself in cultivating a welcoming atmosphere at NoHo MMA. Because of his positive attitude and his attention to each individual's progress, he continues to garner a loyal following among his long time students as well as attracting newcomers who want to learn mixed martial arts.

At NoHo MMA, Sensei Steve offers Kickboxing/MMA classes as well as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for both kids and adults. He also teaches Kali/Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) for adults.
