North Hollywood Hardware Helps Donate Tools to Housing Nonprofit

and a group of shoppers Sunday teamed up to donate tools and money to local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit that builds houses for the less fortunate.

During the event, co-organized by KOST 103.5, customers bought items from a list like hammers, gloves, measuring tape and safety goggles that were donated along with some of the money from the purchases.

Store owner Bruce Bloom said he was happy with the turnout, especially the new faces.

"We had a lot of first time people that live in the NoHo-Studio City area that didn't know we were here in existence," he said. "We had new customers that we hadn't had before."

And given that about six family-owned hardware stores had gone out of business in the past few years, Bloom said jumped at the idea of hosting the charity event when KOST 103.5 approached him with the idea.

"[KOST DJ] Mark Wallengren has been a customer for over 20 years," Bloom said.

Overall, customers spent about $3,500 to benefit Habitat for Humanity, he said.
