North Hollywood Liquor Store Clerk Killed in Robbery, Shooter at Large

Police are asking for help finding the shooter who killed Mohammed Kalam, 61, during an apparent liquor store robbery.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA -- An employee at a liquor store in North Hollywood was shot and killed during a robbery at the business, police said today.

He was Mohammed Kalam, 61, of North Hollywood, according to the coroner's office.

Officers were dispatched at 11:50 p.m. Saturday to the Liquor Mart located on Sherman Way and Bellaire Avenue in response to robbery and assault with a deadly weapon calls, according to Sgt. Tom Holder of the LAPD's North Hollywood station.

Officers arriving at the scene said Kalam had been shot to death, Holder said.

"It appears that it was a robbery -- and something that had occurred during the robbery that caused the victim to be shot," he said.
