North Hollywood Man Charged with Stabbing Good Samaritan, 70, During Shoplifting Scuffle at Gelson's
A man who allegedly stabbed a witness who aided a security guard during a shoplifting arrest at Gelson's market faces life in prison.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA -- A North Hollywood man was charged Wednesday with stabbing a good Samaritan who went to the aid of a security guard who was trying to detain the man's girlfriend on suspicion of shoplifting at a Gelson's market in the Valley Village area.
Richard Anthony Camacho, 24, was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in a Van Nuys courtroom on an attempted murder charge, which includes allegations that he used a knife as a deadly and dangerous weapon and inflicted great bodily injury.
Camacho and his girlfriend, Emily Saado, 21, also of North Hollywood, are each charged with one count of attempted second-degree robbery, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The criminal complaint also alleges that Camacho was convicted in 2014 of unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle.
Camacho allegedly charged toward a loss prevention officer who was trying to detain Saado on suspicion of shoplifting Monday at the Gelson's store in the 4700 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, then allegedly stabbed a 70-year- old man who intervened.

Camacho and Saado were arrested the same day by Los Angeles police.
Camacho could face a possible maximum life prison sentence if convicted as charged, while his girlfriend could face up to three years behind bars, according to the District Attorney's Office.
