North Hollywood Needs Volunteers For Annual Homeless Count

The effort is essential to understanding how large the homelessness crisis has become, and the count is required for federal funding.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — North Hollywood and Toluca Lake need volunteers for the 2020 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, taking place Tuesday, January 21.

North Hollywood's count is from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., meeting at the North Hollywood Recreation Center at 11430 Chandler Blvd. Toluca Lake's count is from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., meeting at the Hollywood United Methodist Church at 4301 Cahuenga Blvd.

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority conducts the homeless count every January across Los Angeles County.

The effort, known as the point-in-time count, is essential to understanding how large the homeless crisis has become and is required to be conducted by Continuum of Care providers to receive federal funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Homelessness in Los Angeles County increased by 12% from 2018 to 2019 to reach an estimated 58,936 people, based on the results of last year's count.
