Officer Shot With Crossbow In North Hollywood Standoff

A suspect barricaded in a North Hollywood apartment building Sunday emerged and fired at a SWAT officer, according to police.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A Los Angeles Police Department SWAT officer was struck with an arrow Sunday night when a suspect barricaded in a North Hollywood apartment emerged and fired a crossbow.

Police returned fire without hitting the man, and took him into custody, according to LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez of the media relations office.

The incident started Sunday night when officers were called to the 5100 block of Bakman Avenue about 9:35 p.m. Sunday on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect barricaded himself in his apartment, according to police. As the SWAT Team began evacuating the apartment building at around 10:30 p.m., the suspect exited and fired a crossbow at officers," said Ramirez.

"One officer was struck by the arrow fired by the suspect and was taken to a local hospital where he received medical treatment and was later released," an LAPD statement said.

Officers fired their weapons at the suspect, who was not wounded, Ramirez said. His name was not immediately released.
