Officer Wounded In Shooting At Mission Community Hospital
The officer suffered minor injuries when his gun went off while transporting a suspect suffering from a mental issue.
PANORAMA CITY, CA — Staff and patients at Mission Community Hospital in Panorama City got a scare Friday morning when an officer's gun went off while transporting a 24-year-old suspect to the hospital.
They details of the shooting remained hazy Friday morning amid conflicting reports of how it happened. No one was seriously injured in the incident, but the officer involved did suffer a minor injury. A special unit has been assigned to investigate the shooting, said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Sgt. Greg Kraft.
"We did have an officer injured in non tactical discharge," Kraft said.

CBS2 reported that the officer's leg was grazed during a struggle with a patient suffering from a mental issue. However, authorities said it was unclear what led to the gun going off.
"So we are not quite sure what caused the officer to sustain the injury," Kraft said. "We are still trying to pin down exactly what happened."

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. Friday in the hospital at 14850 Roscoe Blvd. The officer had taken a young man into custody. The suspect was not injured in the incident, according to police.
