Parents Divided on Decision to Close Los Angeles Schools
While all agree that the safety of students is paramount, not everyone agrees with the decision to shutter schools.

The announcement that all LAUSD schools were closed today caused a mad scramble for hundreds of thousands of parents.
Some had already left for work when they received word of the closure and had to head to their kids’ school or make arrangements for their children to be picked up. Child care had to be put into place. And then there was the fear factor -- were their kids in danger?
Some parents turned to social media to express their gratitude. Helen Krapiva-Moskin wrote, “Thank you Board for doing everything in your power to keep our kids safe. Great job!!” Karen Wolfe added, “Thank you for swift, clear response.”

Brenna Terrones wasn’t as pleased with the district’s response, “Individual schools did a great job communicating with parents EARLY this morning!! Very happy with our principal! I’m a little more disappointed about receiving the official call from LAUSD at 7:46am!”
Robo calls went out to parents starting at 7:45.

And some people thought the response was overblown. Karen Mcmillion wrote, “It’s finals week, they just announced it! New York had the same threat! They stayed open....”
Sarah Rodenbaugh urged people to remain calm throughout the LA area and to be extra patient today, “ALL LA schools are closed. So let’s be patient with everyone today. Your coffee might take a little longer because 700,000 students needed to have their parents come get them or take care of them. Traffic might be a little crazier. People will be missing out on work. Let’s all be a little patient today.”
