Sears, Kmart to Close Up to 120 Stores; Will Valley's 9 Stores Face the Ax?
Six Sears stores and three Kmart stores dot the Valley landscape. Four of these stores are in North Hollywood and Burbank.
According to an article that appeared Tuesday in the San Fernando Business Journal , Sears Holding Corp., the parent company of and Kmart Corp., announced the closing of up to 120 Sears and Kmart stores in 2012 due to poor same store sales performance and the prolonged bad economy.

The Daily News informed: Sears has stores at in North Hollywood, Media Center in Burbank, Northridge Fashion Center, Glendale, Westfield Topanga in Woodland Hills, and Valencia Town Center.
The Kmarts are in North Hollywood, Burbank and Valencia.

The company has not announced which locations will be officially shuttered.
Sears was once the dominant force in retail, when its mail-order-catalog symbolized modern shopping convenience. Today, modern shopping convenience is epitomized by internet-based retail giant Amazon.com, now the retail force to be reckoned with.
