Stubborn Fire Tears Through Valley Strip Mall

It took nearly 100 firefighters to battle a stubborn fire that collapses the roof of a Van Nuys strip mall.

LOS ANGELES — It took 95 firefighters a little more than an hour to knock down a blaze Thursday evening at a one-story strip mall in Van Nuys where the mall's roof partially collapsed.

No injuries had been reported in the fire, which broke out at 9:47 p.m. at 13637 Vanowen Street, near Woodman Avenue, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

One unit was damaged and the two units alongside it were exposed to the fire, Bastman said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation and the loss was to be determined.
