Off-Duty Cops Tackle Alleged Stabber in Hollywood Tourist Attack

A suspect was instantly arrested after allegedly stabbing a Russian tourist shopping with his family at a popular tourist attraction.

A Russian tourist was stabbed today in Hollywood, and his alleged assailant was subdued by off-duty New York police officers.

The 25- to 30-year-old victim was attacked about 1:10 p.m. at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, location of the Hollywood & Highland center popular with tourists, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

The injured man, who had been shopping with his family, was taken to a hospital in stable condition and was expected to survive, police said.

The suspect was subdued by two off-duty New York police officers, LAPD Capt. Peter Zarcone said.

Witnesses told reporters at the scene that the victim was protecting his family and was stabbed in the neck and arms.

Police did not immediately release the names of the victim or suspect.
