Trader Joe's Recalls Peanut Butter Over Salmonella Scare

The store's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter is the likely source of a salmonella outbreak.

Trader Joe's is recalling a house brand of peanut butter because it's believed to be linked to 29 cases of salmonella illnesses in 18 states, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control said that the Monrovia-based chain's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter is likely to be behind the outbreak, the Times reports.

Mostly children were infected and no deaths have been reported, according to the publication.

The potential salmonella contamination could cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly or others with compromised immune systems.
