GLENDALE, CA — A rat with a sweet tooth is causing major headaches for a popular Glendale cupcake shop after footage of the little critter pillaging the cupcake display case gained widespread attention.
The Sprinkles Cupcakes store at the Americana at Brand mall in Glendale voluntarily closed over the weekend after someone posted a video of a rat foraging the shop for goodies after hours. Posted to YouTube Friday, the video quickly found a larger viewership.
The woman who shot the video on her cellphone offered a play-by-play of the incursion. "Oh my God, it's in everything," she screamed. "That's disgusting."

The video was posted to YouTube on Friday and has been viewed more than 54,000 times.
Sprinkles Cupcakes issued a statement blaming the rat on "... an unfortunate set of circumstances, including a structural malfunction ... ."

Company officials said they consulted with food-safety experts and the mall landlord and have addressed the issue.
