When I was reading yesterday’s article about Tamar Galatzan’s continued fight to block Stuart Magruder from the Bond Oversight Committee, there was something bothering me but I could not put my finger on it. It hit me last night.
The article states that Tamar Galatzan “contends the campaign against Magruder, whom she says she has never met, is not against him personally.” However, in another source’s timeline of the original hearing it was noted that the “BOC staff, their attorney and Stuart Magruder are present. They are not allowed to be heard.” Mr. Magruder was at the meeting to respond to Ms. Galatzan’s allegations against him and she could have taken the opportunity to discuss these issues face-to-face. The fact that she did not is indicative of her behavior on the board.

Unfortunately, when the board meetings are streamed on the internet or broadcast on television, the camera only shows the person who is speaking. Otherwise, the viewer would see Ms. Galatzan staring blankly at her tablet as speaker after speaker share their observations, concerns and complaints about the district. As the person elected to represent these people, she should be listening intently to their concerns. If she has been on the board so long that these proceedings bore her, then she should step aside. However, the problem may be that the opinion that she cares the most about belongs to someone other than the stakeholders.
