Widening of Magnolia Blvd. in Arts District Scheduled to Begin Today
A major project that may take up to 692 days will widen the boulevard by seven feet.

People travelling through the NoHo Arts District on Magnolia Boulevard earlier this year dealt with the between Vineland Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard that lasted months, causing Magnolia to become very congested with traffic.
Now, an even bigger project is scheduled to begin today along the same stretch of Magnolia between Vineland and Cahuenga that will take almost two years to complete.
The project consists of widening by seven feet the southern half of the section of Magnolia. According to the city's Bureau of Engineering, the widening will be accomplished "by demolishing/removing the existing curb, gutter, sidewalk, pull boxes, and traffic signal equipment; sandblasting traffic striping; constructing almost 1,300 linear feet of type C integral curb and gutter, almost 2,500 square feet of intersection concrete gutter, over 10,000 square feet of 3-inch concrete sidewalk, almost 2,200 square feet of concrete driveways, and approximately 16,100 square feet of asphalt road surface; installing storm drain lines & associated catch basins, street lights, traffic signals, and traffic striping; and performing landscape work consisting of removing weeds and 16 trees, installing topsoil and 69 trees, and maintaining the new landscape for 180 days. The contract duration is 692 calendar days." (See Attached PDF).

NoHoArtsDistrict.com interviewed Ramnik D. Mungra, the project manager of Street Improvement Section Bureau of Engineering, who said the contractor is required to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction and turn lane.
Patch cruised Magnolia around noon and did not see any construction yet underway, but there was a Department of Sanitation truck putting up some construction signs.
