Wildwood Canyon Fire Triggers Burbank Evacuations

Residents and hikers are being urged to evacuate the Wildwood Canyon area where a wildfire has broken out.

BURBANK, CA — A brush fire in the Wildwood Canyon area in Burbank has prompted evacuation orders for residents on Country Club Drive, and hikers have been ordered to leave the area as air tankers dump water on the 10-acre blaze.

THE fire broke out in the Wildwood Canyon Park area in Burbank late Wednesday afternoon and quickly scorched about 10 acres of brush. The blaze was reported about 3:50 p.m. in the 2200 block of Wildwood Canyon Road, north of a Burbank police shooting range, a dispatcher said.

The Wildwood Canyon Hiking and Trail area is closed to traffic, said Burbank police Lt. Claudio Losacco.

Burbank fire officials issued an urgent message asking residents and hikers to evacuate to safety,

"Burbank Fire & Police are working a brush fire in the Wildwood Canyon area. Any hikers in the area need to leave immediately. The Burbank Fire and Police Departments are responding to a brush fire in the hills above Sunset Canyon Drive. The fire is in the Wildwood Canyon Hiking and Trail area. This is an urgent message to anyone currently in or near the Wildwood Canyon area, including the Stough Nature Center, to leave the area immediately."
