Blockbuster Is Leaving '5 Points' Intersection; What Should Take Its Place?

I that the Blockbuster Video on Lankershim Boulevard is closing.

The video store was prominently located on a visible corner of the area known to some locals as the 'Five Points' intersection where Lankershim Boulevard, Vineland Avenue and Camarillo Street meet.

The closing has prompted some of our readers to guess or hope for what should take its place.

Patch reader had this to say: "Good riddance to a chain which is so yesterday. Free up the space to a current tenant."

Whether you mourn the loss of Blockbuster or cheer it, one thing is certain: the key retail space will soon be vacant.

So I thought I would pose the question to my readers. What would you like to see take its place?

One reader wrote me an email today, concerned that the space might end up "a T-mobile store or something."

Reader suggested it could be a good location for a new Fresh & Easy, but acknowledged since the supermarket giant had recently opened a location on Sherman Way, as I , it likely has already made a conscious decision not to open a location in the Arts District.

"...the space where Blockbuster was at the Five Points (Blockbuster is closing) may be an option for a Fresh and Easy; however now that they are in North North Hollywood, they may not want another. Sadly, poor planning has hurt NoHo again. We have a new Councilman taking over in July; perhaps he will do better," Higby wrote.

Having been inside the new Fresh and Easy several times and the old Blockbuster countless times, I would say the space seems perhaps just a bit too small for a Fresh & Easy. And as Higby pointed out, Fresh & Easy likely did a full scouting of the NoHo Arts District and decided to pass. Zoning laws would also likely prohibit a grocer from locating there due to the fact that the parking lot would be inadequate.
