Woman Killed in North Hollywood Amtrak Accident ID'd as Sun Valley Resident

Another train had just passed through the area, and the woman started walking across the tracks when she was hit by the Amtrak train.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Authorities on Monday identified a 78-year-old woman who was killed by an Amtrak train in North Hollywood.

Edith Santa Maria of Sun Valley was struck about 7:05 p.m. Friday by a southbound train near the 6800 block of Vineland Avenue and died at the scene, according to coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

No one aboard Pacific Surfliner train number 790, which was carrying 241 passengers, was injured, authorities said. The accident occurred about one mile north of the Burbank Station, according to an Amtrak official.
