Yikes! Gas Averaging Over $4 Per Gallon; Where's the Cheapest Locally?

The average price has risen 32.6 cents over the past 27 days, including 2.4 cents on Sunday.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose Monday to its highest amount since May 28, increasing 1 cent to $4.07.

The average price has increased 14 consecutive days and 26 times in 27 days and is 19.4 cents more than one week ago, 33.5 cents higher than a month ago and 51.4 cents greater than a year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price rose to its highest amount since May 26, increasing 1.3 cents to $4.063.

The Orange County average price is 19.8 cents more than one week ago, 33.9 cents higher than a month ago and 51.6 cents greater than a year ago. It has increased 30 of the past 32 days, rising 34.1 cents during that span, including 2.6 cents on Sunday.

Analysts have cited increasing oil prices and the closure of some refineries that supply California customers for maintenance as reasons for the rising prices.

Crude oil costs account for two-thirds to three-quarters of the price of a gallon of gasoline, according to Tupper Hull of the Western States Petroleum Association, a trade association representing oil companies in six western states.
