2 Injured In Hazmat Incident At Granada Hills Water Treatment Facility
A hazmat team investigated the scene and found no outside threat or cause for evacuation.
GRANADA HILLS, CA — Two Metropolitan Water District workers were sickened Tuesday afternoon after being exposed to a hazardous chemical, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Both workers were taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital for treatment after being exposed to a "corrosion-inhibiting product," said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to the facility in the 13100 block of North Balboa Boulevard just before 12:30 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department

"The two 30-year-old male workers are in fair condition with minor respiratory complaints after their isolated accidental exposure to a corrosion inhibiting product," he said. "They will both be transported by LAFD ambulance to an area hospital for further evaluation. No other persons are ill or injured. No escalating or off-site hazard has been identified."
After LAFD Hazardous Materials experts further evaluated the scene, it was determined that there was no need for off-site evacuation, he added.

The incident remained under investigation.
