NORTHRIDGE, CA — Los Angeles firefighters rescued a two-year-old boy in Northridge Friday when he became trapped in the rolling steel gate for an apartment building's underground garage.

The little boy appeared to escape serious injury, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. The incident occurred just after noon at the 17800 block of Superior Street in Northridge near California State University, Northridge.

"He was pinned between the wrought iron rolling gate and a block wall," said Humphrey.

Crews quickly turned off the gate, secured it, and cut several rungs from the gate to free the frantic boy. The rescue took less than five minutes.

Fire Department officials treated the boy for a minor injury at the scene, but his mother declined to have him transported to a hospital, added Humphrey.
