Traffic Snarled Hours After Fatal Rollover Crash At Major Freeway Interchange
A fatal crash at a major interchange prompted lane closures hours after the collision.
SHERMAN OAKS, CA — One person was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash on the 101-405 Freeway interchange, which continued to impact traffic more than seven hours later.
The crash was reported at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday on the transition road from the northbound 101 Freeway to the southbound 405 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash destroyed a section of guardrail on the 101 Freeway. The guardrail, which separates key 101 lanes from the southbound 405 onramp, needed emergency repairs, KTLA reported.
A CHP sergeant told the station that traffic will be impacted into the afternoon.

“Traffic is backed up for about four miles and it is only going to get worse as the day goes through,” Sgt. Geraty said. “It’s impacting southbound 405 as well, so the 405 has more traffic on it than normal. Everyone’s commute is going to be much longer than expected.”
As of 10 a.m., the left lane of the transition road was blocked, along with the right lane of the northbound 101 near the 405 Freeway. Traffic was backed up to Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to a Sigalert.
