405 Freeway SigAlert: Driver Trapped In Overturned Truck

NORTH HILLS, CA — A pickup truck driver crashed on the rain-slicked San Diego (405) Freeway, overturning and coming to rest against a building in the San Fernando Valley Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near the Roscoe Boulevard offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash triggered a SigAlert that was ongoing as of the 5 p.m. rush hour, according to the CHP.

The driver became trapped in the wreckage and suffered serious injuries, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The driver, a man believed to be in his 40s, was "badly trapped" in the wreckage, and he had to be carefully pulled from the wreckage.

"The adult male, who proved to be the only patient, has been freed from the wreckage, and is being transported by LAFD Paramedics to a regional trauma center in serious condition," said Brian Humphrey, LAFD spokesman.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
