Firefighters Stop Grass Fire Along 118 Freeway In Chatsworth

CHATSWORTH, CA — Firefighters stopped the spread of a grass fire that burned alongside the 118 Freeway in Chatsworth on Monday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 1:42 p.m. along the westbound freeway. Arriving firefighters found an approximately quarter-acre grass fire burning on an embankment along the right shoulder, according to the LAFD.

The fire initially had a slow rate of spread, and no structures were threatened, officials said.

Firefighters later stopped the fire's forward progress. No injuries were reported, and the cause remained under investigation.

Two lanes of the westbound 118 Freeway were closed just east of De Soto Avenue while crews worked at the scene. The California Highway Patrol also responded.

The lanes had reopened by 2:45 p.m.
