Armed Suspect Barricades Himself In Northridge Home

Police were called to the scene Monday morning when witnesses reported seeing a man with a knife shattering vehicle windows.

NORTHRIDGE, CA — An hours-long standoff in Northridge ended, but it was unclear if a suspect believed to be armed with a knife as he shattered the windows of vehicles was arrested, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The standoff began at 7:48 a.m. Monday when officers responded to a report of a "man possibly armed with a knife vandalizing windows," said LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes.

Police swarmed the area around the 18900 block of Bahama Street, and the standoff was ongoing hours later. The suspect was reportedly seen shattering vehicle windows in the neighborhood.

Police did not confirm the suspect was barricaded at a residence but said police dogs were searching for the man until 1:20 p.m.

There were no injuries immediately reported. Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect.
